ok, i am actually participating at the kinetica art fair. it starts in less then a week and i am very excited. the organisers of the fair showed a strong interest in "hoover tubes" and wanted me to exhibit it. under one condition, it had to be silenced, but how to silence a vacuum cleaner ? everyone knows that they are noisy things that your mum uses to spoil your favourite tv-show.
luckily, sound proofing is a common issue for many people and solutions exist. what i came up with was a mix of methods, used in architecture and sound engineering. the build consists of an anti echoing chamber that redirects and breaks sound waves. the walls of the chamber are cushioned with sponges, which absorb the waves and thereby dampen the sound. I'm very pleased how it turned out, reducing the volume dramatically. the hoover is silenced and ready for the show...bring it on!
